My Journey and the Birth of Battlelinesediting

I chose to start this company and become a copy editor for a variety of reasons, first and foremost among them being that I felt called by God to do this.

Like most people I spent a lot of my time in college trying to discover my gifts and passions. Once I knew what those were I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out what the most effective use of those gifts were.

I spent my final semester in college thinking, philosophizing, and reflecting on who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life. I discovered some of the answers to those questions that semester but the decision about what career path to take evaded me. I prayed and prayed about it up until I finished, but it wasn’t until a few days after the end of the semester that my prayer was answered in full. My mom had told a friend about me, and that friend asked if I would be interested in editing her book. Before I even began working on her book I felt that this was the direction that God wanted me to take. It felt highly compatible with some of the other things God was asking of me. I enjoyed editing her book, and when I finished I felt that the path was laid out for me. It wouldn’t be easy, but for the first time in my life my career path was crystal clear.

Once I finished editing that book I felt confirmation in my spirit regarding Battlelines. Once I was settled here in Montana I began to bring this idea to life. Something felt right about splitting my ministry and business, they needed to be linked but separate. Each is designed to complement and support the other in a variety of ways. The only question left is, will it work?

Values

Some of my strongest personal values are freedom, community, growth, and balance/wellness.

Some of my strongest professional values are Integrity and service.

I strive to live in a God honoring way. What my clients can expect from me is to be dealt with honestly and fairly, and they can expect to get my best work.

Goals

The idea is to specialize in Christian literature. I want to work with my clients to help them impact our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. That doesn’t mean I won’t take clients outside of that genre, just that I’m eager to take clients writing within that genre (I can’t afford to be picky right out of the gate).

Qualifications

Degree

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a Bachelor’s degree in English. I’ve spent five years (my first year in college was part time) writing, revising, and proofreading papers.

Since I’m just starting out my experience editing the work of others is limited, but I have plenty editing my own. I’m praying that God will send me the clients I need to establish a great reputation as a Copy Editor.

References

So far I only have one reference regarding my Copyediting skills, which is available upon request.

Below I will (eventually) attach a portfolio containing a sample of my work on her book.

Mission

The mission for Battlelinesediting is to help christian authors reach more people by editing their work to make it easier to read and more engaging.

Vision

My vision for Battlelinesediting is for it to grow and become the financial foundation for future endeavors that serve to help build God's kingdom.
